Solar Power: Part of Arizona's Energy Future Since 1955

August 02, 2013

Since 1955, when Phoenix hosted the first-ever world solar conference, APS has been involved in finding ways to harness the sun to help meet Arizona’s energy needs. And our commitment continues:

  • The Solar Electric Power Association ranked APS fourth among American electric utilities for most solar megawatts added to its system in 2012.
  • At the end of July, APS passed 19,000 distributed solar installations on our system, including both residential and commercial installations.
  • Solana, the world’s largest thermal solar plant, will soon come online with enough capacity to power the homes of 62,500 APS customers.
