In its Nov. 30 edition, The Arizona Republic published an editorial supporting the effort of four U.S. Representatives to have Washington’s newest consumer-protection agency review long-term rooftop solar leases.
Reps. Ron Barber, Ann Kirkpatrick and Kyrsten Sinema of Arizona and Gene Green of Texas sent a letter to Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Director Richard Cordray in mid-November. Their letter requested that the agency take a look at the industry’s sales process to address constituents’ concerns. While expressing support for solar as “a key component of America’s energy future,” the lawmakers wrote that “we must be vigilant in protecting consumers from any misleading sales practices.”
In the editorial, the Republic says that “it seems reasonable to ask whether those leases really do pencil out” financially for homeowners.
