The Arizona Corporation Commission unanimously approved a Certificate of Environmental Compatibility (CEC) for the Ocotillo Modernization Project on Wednesday. The CEC affirms that the project is suitable for the plant site in Tempe.
“This is an important development in creating cleaner, more flexible and more responsive generation for Arizona,” said Tammy McLeod, APS vice president of resource management. “We are one step closer to remaking Ocotillo into a cleaner, more efficient plant that will enable APS to integrate growing renewable resources and maintain reliability for our customers.”
APS continues to work toward securing an air permit from the Maricopa County Air Quality Department and various permits from the city of Tempe for the project. It is anticipated to go into service in 2018.
