Public Hearing Set to Begin for CEC Application

September 15, 2014

A public hearing regarding the Ocotillo Modernization Project will begin Tuesday, Sept. 16, at 9:30 a.m. at the Embassy Suites Phoenix - Tempe, 4400 S. Rural Road in Tempe.

The Arizona Power Plant and Transmission Line Siting Committee is conducting the hearing to consider a Certificate of Environmental Compatibility (CEC) application for the project. The public will have an opportunity to comment during a special session Tuesday evening at 6.

On Wednesday, the hearing is set to start at 9 a.m., though the committee may tour the Ocotillo Power Plant at 8 a.m. The hearing at the Embassy Suites would start at a later time. If needed, the hearing will continue Thursday at 9 a.m.

As part of the CEC application, APS evaluates environmental factors such as water use, existing and future land uses at the plant site, cultural/archeological sites and biological resources, plus potential visual and noise impacts from the project. The committee will make a recommendation to the Arizona Corporation Commission, which will issue the ultimate decision on APS's application.

Public comment also may be taken at the beginning of each hearing day or at other times during the hearing at the discretion of the committee chairman.
